Upon arrival in Jayapura by morning flight, you will be met by your local assistant to help you for the next flight to Wamena..

Upon arrival in Wamena, we’ll head directly towards Aikima, a village located in the northern part of the Baliem Valley. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the daily life of the Dani people, working in their sweet potato fields and going about their traditional routines. YOur journey continues with a walk through the lush pine forests around Suroba, crossing the Aike River via a scenic bridge. After soaking in the natural beauty and vibrant culture, return to town in the late afternoon. You’ll check in at your hotel, with dinner on your own.

After breakfast, we’ll drive to the southern part of Baliem Valley, where our trekking adventure begins at the village of Sogokmo, just 3 kilometers before Kurima. From here, we’ll embark on a scenic walk along the powerful Baliem River. Our path takes us across a suspension bridge and through traditional Dani settlements, surrounded by terraced fields and wild sugar cane groves. The trek offers stunning views over the river and the narrow valley below. We’ll stop for lunch at the charming church of Seinma, enjoying the beautiful landscapes around us. Before completing the trek, we’ll cross another suspension bridge near Kurima, providing perfect photo opportunities. If this trek proves too challenging, there’s an option to explore easier routes in the Sogokmo or Yetni areas. After the trek, we’ll return to your hotel in the late afternoon. A packed lunch will be provided, with dinner on your own

Today, we immerse ourselves in the rich culture of the Dani people. After breakfast, we’ll drive to Jiwika in the central Baliem Valley, where a warm and festive welcome awaits you. The Dani tribe members, dressed in their finest traditional attire, will greet you upon arrival. The village chief, standing on a traditional observation platform, will signal the start of the celebrations. One of the highlights is the “Mock Battle,” a fascinating display of traditional warfare techniques that is both visually striking and culturally significant. It’s a rare experience, perfect for photography and video. We’ll also visit Sumpaima village to see the famous mummy of the Dugum clan, a revered artifact proudly presented by the villagers. Throughout the day, you’ll have the chance to explore other picturesque hamlets and browse local arts, crafts, and curiosities offered by the friendly natives. After a full day of cultural immersion, we’ll return to your hotel. A packed lunch will be provided, with dinner on your own.
