Nusa Tenggara Barat is one of the 27 Indonesian provinces. Its two main islands, Lombok and Sumbawa, are surrounded by hundreds of smaller islands, covering over an area of 20, 153 square kilometers.
Lombok island is about 80 km from East to West, and little smaller from North to South Sumbawa island stretches 300 km from East to West, and 100 km North to South.
The Wallace line, postulated by Sir Alfred Wallace in the 18th century, divides Asia and Australasia, into two district area in terms of flora and fauna. The line falls on the narrow but extremely deep strait between Bali and Lombok, thus Asia ends in Bali and Australasia begins in Lombok. Nevertheless, many people believe that the differences in the variety of Flora and Fauna between the two area is due more to the actual environmental differences than to the original distribution of species.
Deer, wild boars, feral cattle, Koak-kaok (similar to sparrow) and a number of other bird species, as well as a variety of snakes and frogs are part of the wildlife of Nusa Tenggara Barat.
